Liberia to Playa Grande

Getting from Liberia Airport to Playa Grande

It takes 60-90 minutes by car from Liberia Airport to Playa Grande, depending on traffic and road conditions.

Hotel Bula Bula charters taxis and vans as transportation from Liberia Airport to Playa Grande. The cost varies depending on the number of people, and should be between $15-30 per person. You don't need to make arrangements ahead of time if you don't want to. You can hail a cab at the airport, and the fare to Playa Grande should be about $70 or so. Avoid sharing a shuttle with anyone going to Tamarindo, and if you do, make sure that you get dropped off first -- Tamarindo is a ways from Playa Grande by road (about 30 minutes).

Rental car agencies at Liberia Airport include National Car Service (Costa Rica tel: (011-506)-668-1111) and Economy Rent-A-Car (Toll free tel: 877-ECO-RENT).

Driving directions from Liberia airport to Palm Beach Estates (check with your hotel/house contact for directions to your specific destination once you have arrived at Palm Beach Estates, per the directions below):

• When leaving the airport take a right onto the main road Route 21.
• Once you are on the main road, it is about 15-20 minutes until your first right.
• On the main road, you will pass the Do It Center on your right. Keep going straight.
• Just after passing Restaurant Hong Kong on your right you will see a big new gas station called GasAuto. Take a right before the gas station onto Route 155.
• You will pass a soccer field on your left.
• When you come to an intersection, you will see signs for Iguana Surf Camp, Flamingo and Playa Grande, take this left.
• Pass the Cartagena Canopy Tour sign and pass Monkey Park.
• You will pass a gas station on your left that says Penzoil, Exxon and Castrol.
• This is the closest gas station to the house so remember to fill your tank if you are running low. It is still a 20-minute drive from this point.
• Stay on the main road, pass a sign for Puertos Muebles.
• You will see a big Economy Rent-a-Car sign, continue straight. Do not turn left to Tamarindo. Continue straight on the road to Grande, do not turn right to Flamingo.
• You will pass stores called Salon Victoria and Super Roxana on your left and there will be a soccer field on your right. You will take a left at this intersection.
• After taking this left, you will go over a little bridge.
• You will pass Pizzeria Horno de Lena on your right (best pizza in Playa Grande).
• You will pass Kike’s Place on your left (great local bar) and soon after see a large sign that shows lots, and says Century 21. Take a left here.
• You will come to an intersection with many signs. Turn left, following the signs for Hotel Cantarana and Hotel Bula Bula.
• Follow signs for Hotel Manglar.
• As soon as you pass the guard gate for Palm Beach Estates, take a right... you will see Hotel Cantarana on your left, and you have arrived in Palm Beach Estates!
